The Maps Data team owns the platform and systems to represent a wide variety of map features for the entire globe. You will bridge the software engineering team and the users to optimize the usage and benefits from the software systems. You will get your hands dirty on the latest and greatest platforms and frameworks.

• Object-oriented programming and design skills, preferably in Java, Scala or JavaScript
• Demonstrated deep proficiency with Big Data processing technologies (Hadoop, HBase, Cassandra, other NO SQL solutions)
• Aptitude to independently learn new technologies.
• Experience designing or implementing systems which work with external vendors' interfaces Excellent oral and written communication skills

In this role you'll be responsible for building various maps features and related platforms that are used at scale. You will be mostly coding in Scala and working with Play Framework, Spark, Mongo DB and other new platforms. Maps is a complex product and you will be challenged in your ability to grasp things quickly and working fast with smart people. Successful candidates will have strong engineering skills and communication, as well as a belief that collaborative development creates a better product and make you a better engineer.

• Bachelors degree in CS or equivalent in computer science or related field.
• Advanced degree preferred.

• Geo spatial experience
• Fluency with Play or other similar Frameworks is a nice bonus
• Experience with Jenkins or other build-integration systems
• Hands-on experience from Hadoop technologies like MR, Spark, Yarn etc.

The position is based in Hyderabad, India.

• 7+ years of experience in software project/program/product management
• Degree/Master in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Fluency in English is a must
• Strong technical proficiency in server-based software architecture and development
• Willing to consider international travel to interact with teams in Cupertino as required
• Self motivated and proactive, with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities
• Experience with remote teams, agile development and fast release cycles
• Proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects
• Ability to adapt manner of communicating, motivating, and managing, across cultures
• Experience creating, documenting, and communicating project requirements, plans, and status

Maps program managers are engaged with all aspects of the project from requirements analysis through product definition, design, engineering, QA, deployment, and aftercare.

You will act as a trusted partner to help guide the design and evolution of our platform. A firm grasp of the fundamentals of program management is important, but there is more required than just the typical skill set. You will work with engineers in a challenging, high-pressured environment and will need to have credibility with world-leading technologists that are experts in their field.

This position demands somebody who can look forward and anticipate problems (both technological and otherwise) far enough in advance to allow them to be dealt with before they arise. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are must-haves for any candidate. Being a self-starter with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership is also important as the team is looking for the kind of person who can dive right into a problem and resolve it without having to be asked to do so.

The Maps team is developing tools to analyze, visualize, process, manage and curate data at large scale. We are looking for engineering leaders who can be part of the team building a massive, scalable, distributed system for enabling the maps data platform.

• Years of experience working in a software product development organization building

• Expertise with object oriented programming, preferably Scala with PLAY
• Experience implementing RESTful web-services in Java, Scala, Python or similar

• Experience with NoSQL and SQL databases
• Fluency in Hadoop technologies, e.g. Spark, Hive, Oozie
• Experience in information retrieval and storage or machine learning
• Familiarity with modern web development frameworks, libraries and tools (e.g. React, Bootstrap, Marionette, Backbone)
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Important qualities we are looking for are - passionate, fast learner and team player

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or related field

• Familiarity with GeoSpatial concepts is a plus
